Here are some stories to give a sense of my work. I plan to add more jobs and cover photos to this page later. See also this Goodreads list of books I have proofread or copyedited.

Laura Anderson Barbata book

Artist Laura Anderson Barbata was one of the contributors to the book about her work, Transcommunality: Interventions and Collaborations in Stilt Dancing Communities, published by Turner in 2012. This large-format art book is available in English and Spanish editions. I did both copyediting and proofreading of the English text. The project manager wrote me an inscription: “Thanks for all of your hard work on this book.”

The memoir Slow Train: Moscow to Providence was self-published via Blurb.com in 2011 after developmental editing by me. Author Loda inscribed the book with “Many thanks for your participation in the creation of this thing of beauty—it was a long gestation.”

Spanish textbook cover
I copyedited Estructura de los sonidos del español for the book packager MPS North America (Pearson Higher Education is the publisher). On 19 February 2008 author Carlos-Eduardo Piñeros wrote: “Please tell Beth how grateful I am that she noticed that problem with the percentages in the chart of Chapter 2. . . . Thank God she caught it. She’s SOOOO good.”

Freelance project manager Nicholas H. Allison hired me in 2004 to work on the books La Colección Gelman and the paperback La Colección Gelman: Selecciones for Costco Wholesale. He wrote me: “Your work on the indexes was excellent and a real asset to the books. Many thanks for your diligence, thoughtfulness, and willingness to leap in when the work needed doing. I’ll definitely keep you in mind for any future projects and will recommend you to others.”

Academic Writing

Since 2000 I have worked with students and professors at the University of Gävle, Sweden, on their journal articles, master’s and licentiate theses, and PhD dissertations, primarily in the fields of management science and civil engineering. Here are some of their testimonials:

  • “Reviewers and editors commend us for writing style and grammar. As it is very much thanks to you I just wanted to say that.” —Mandar Dabhilkar, 18 September 2015
  • “A great job as usual, and even more, so fast that I’m amazed.” —Prof. Lars Bengtsson, 13 November 2008
  • “I am very grateful for your quick work. This is my first paper and I am not experienced with writing in English either. . . so through your comments I also can improve my English language.” —Stefan, University of Gävle, Sweden, 7 March 2008
